A turbocharged 2.5 L is on its way!

The Kia Stinger will, in addition to a new engine, gain 3 horsepower on the most powerful 3.3T engine due to a new variable exhaust system. In addition to the styling updates, a new engine will be available, sitting between the standard 255 horsepower 2.0T and optional 368 horsepower 3.3T V6.

Key Points

1. A 300 horsepower 2.5 L turbo I-4 will be available for the 2022 model year.

2. The highest horsepower 3.3T V6 that currently produces 365 horsepower will add a new exhaust system, bringing the power output up to 368.

3. The new variable exhaust system should make an enhanced sound in sport mode.

2022 will bring more than just a styling update for the much loved Kia sports sedan, some powertrain updates are included as well. While the base 2.0 L turbo I-4 engine will be untouched, the optional 3.3T V6 will receive a new variable exhaust system, bringing the horsepower figures from 365 to 368. In addition, a new engine will be added, a 2.5 turbo I-4 that will produce 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. All horses will be delivered to the wheels (Not sure which) via an eight speed automatic transmission.

Pricing hasn't been announced for the new 2.5 L turbo engine, but it should start between the two existing ones, most likely around $37,000.

Kia's sports sedan has been updated, with refreshed styling and a new engine. I would assume this engine will appear in the Stinger's brother, the Genesis G70, but we will just have to wait and find out. This new 300 horsepower engine may make for the perfect balance between power and practicality, especially if all wheel drive is available.
