Korn streamed the release show of The Nothing for free on YouTube
The concert took place in 2019 as part of Warner Music Group's online-only PlayOn Fest and was attended by a handful of the band's biggest fans
With the world firmly in the grip of coronageddon, the multi-platinum selling metal band Korn realised that a lot of their fans would be missing out on the concert experience. In response to this, the band decided to upload the release show they put on for their latest album The Nothing. The show was filmed in 2019 as part of their label Warner Music Group's online-only PlayOn Fest.
Korn wanted the show to have as intimate of an experience as possible, so they invited only their biggest fans (some of which they've actually gotten to know more personally over their 25 year career) and didn't even set up a proper stage, preferring to set all their gear, monitors and props on the venue's floor. The venue wasn't even a traditional music venue either; it was a film studio in California that they converted into something that was supposed to resemble a performance art piece. A huge ring light was suspended above the makeshift 'stage' whilst the band also hired contortionists who were covered in what looks like cables and black tape to perform a visual representation of the tortured nature of Korn's music. This was especially effective regarding the songs off of The Nothing, an album that was written and recorded around the time of the tragic passing of frontman Jonathan Davis' wife Deven.
Not only is this show fantastic to watch, seeing Korn in a much more stripped-down experience than they usually do at live shows where they normally play huge venues, but it has an absolute banger of a setlist too! They open with the classic Falling Away From Me and blast from other great songs old and new including You'll Never Find Me, Here To Stay, Can You Hear Me and Clown. The extended cut version of the performance also features interview segments with all the members of the band and fans of the band who had been invited to watch the show. All in all, this is an incredible live performance video meets band documentary and you should definitely sit down and give it a watch!
