Lancia could make a large luxury sedan based on the DS9 in 2024
Is this the return of the Italian brand to the luxury segment?
Stellantis has great ambitions for Lancia and intends to restore the brand to the glory it enjoyed before a long descent into the abyss. The new group is putting the Italian manufacturer on the same level as DS Automobiles and Alfa Romeo in its catalogue of brands.
If the return of the Delta based on the Peugeot 308 is not already excluded, we can now expect the rebirth of a large luxury sedan using the underpinnings of the DS9. The car could be called Athena and would adopt all the latest technologies used by its French cousin.
Renderings posted on the I Love Lancia Twitter account suggest a traditional sedan with dynamic styling that resembles the Maserati Ghibli in some respects. The interior is expected to feature fine materials and an original dashboard design. In terms of technology, the Lancia flagship could receive the new Stellantis infotainment system.
The car will also be equipped with level 2 semi-autonomous driving. Under the bonnet, the largest Lancia will have the same engines as the DS9, namely petrols and plug-in hybrids. If the project is officially confirmed this year, the vehicle could arrive as early as 2024.
