So far this year, we’ve already heard Ferrari and the newly named Alpha Tauri – previously known as Toro Rosso – announce their 2020 F1 car launch dates. Maranello will be full of reporters earlier in the year than it usually as its F1 car will be unveiled on the 11th of February. While Alpha Tauri has chosen to give all the single folk something to do on Valentine’s Day with a February 14th reveal.

With more team factories opening their doors after a long winter break, we should hear the rest of the launch dates pretty soon. Unfortunately for McLaren, that “launch date launch day” has come slightly earlier than expected as a certain young man has been somewhat careless with the information.

Earlier today, Lando Norris had managed to get hold of the McLaren YouTube account password. Obviously, the only logical thing to do at that point was to livestream himself wandering through the Woking factory.

After checking out the many cars sitting around the entrance to the McLaren factory including last year’s car and an Elva hypercar, the king of the internet himself joins a meeting discussing the so-called MCL35’s launch. Before entering the room, he reads the screen that informs people that the information is confidential.

Being the true gentleman that he is, Lando starts chatting about the winter break and everything he got up to including his little adventure to Las Vegas for CES. The conversation swiftly moves on to the subject of the meeting at which point the British driver asks confirmation about a February 13th car launch. Supposedly, this is something McLaren CEO, Zak Brown told him.

As soon as he mentions the 13th, the entire room goes quiet. You can just feel the tension and awkwardness for a few beautiful silent seconds. Unfortunately, the live stream was cut off before anyone could confirm or deny the date, but I’m guessing that based on the change in mood that it’s real.

Without wanting to seem cynical, I think this may have been planned. In fact, it doesn’t take long for the live stream to move into the meeting room where the date is being discussed. The member of the Social Media team that follows Lando around even seemingly escorts him into the room.

UPDATE: 13/01 at 19:54 CET

McLaren's Social Media team has confirmed the date of the 13th of February as the launch day for the MCL35 via an Instagram story.
