In an Interesting Turn of Events, I Go Bowtie

So what gives? Was it not just a few weeks ago that I rambled on about Ford trucks and how much I loved them? Okay, fine. But, in the interest of unbiased bias, I decided to check things out on the other side of the tracks.

I've owned a Chevy truck before, though that one was about a half ton smaller. It was a black S-10 with the big ol' 4.3-liter V6, and man, what a truck. My old man told me he'd go in half-and-half with me on my first car, and I just couldn't wait. I came to him shortly after my 16th birthday with $150 that I'd scraped together and asked him if he'd help me buy this old hunk. An hour later, I had wheels.

That truck had a laundry list of issues, the biggest being the broken leaf springs that made it downright sketchy to drive. I didn't care though. I had wheels, man! I drove that thing everywhere, and I quickly learned to love it. Even with a shit-ton of miles, that 4.3 still pulled hard. Burnouts were too easy, and the rumble of that mini SBC was enough to convince me that I was in a much-more ravenous machine.

Fast forward to today, and the 7.4-liter Burban continues the legacy of its little brother. Its thunderous big block puts the power of God in your socks. I was told it has a bigger cam in it too, which probably doesn't help. Even at less than 10 MPG, I can't but help dip into the 400+ TQs occasionally. There's no doubt; for a 6000-lb sled, this thing hauls ass.

Still, why do I need such a big piece of ass? On several occasions, mostly at the gas station, I've considered selling it (which would net me a tidy profit). Even the guy who sold it to me questioned whether I actually needed such a beastly machine. There's just so much to love about this rig though. There's a certain class to its well-earned patina, plus it exudes a fuck-off vibe that's hard to beat.

So what's the future hold? I think a little maintenance is in order, first and foremost, then who knows. A trip up the mountain would be nice...but so would a few pounds of boost.
