Bugatti Chiron Sport 'Les Légendes du Ciel' meets Dassault Rafale Marine jet

There has always been a deep art in Bugatti design as explained to me during my conversations with Stephan Winkelmann and Frank Heyl. I never take things at face value. On the surface you may see two tremendously fast cars and a fighter jet, but why? Do you really think a car can go faster than a jet? The story lies within, and not just within the beauty of the car but it's relationship and history with aviation.

Past Bugatti race car drivers also flew for the French Airforce. Ettore Bugatti had also worked on aircraft and aircraft engines. Many of the materials and designs that go into Bugatti are similar in order to be lightweight and aerodynamic.

"It is the French luxury marque’s way of honoring French aviation and the former Bugatti drivers of the golden age who also piloted airplanes. Since it was revealed the Chiron Sport ‘Les Légendes du Ciel’ forges a link between the past and the present."

"The limited edition Bugatti features attributes to aircraft, such as the Gris Serpent matte grey paintwork and the blue, white, and red Tricolor, which adorns the front of the side skirts made from black visible carbon fiber. The bars of the radiator grille are made from laser-cut, deep-drawn aluminum and are reminiscent of planes in a flyby formation. A brushed aluminum door sill panel with the lettering ‘Les Légendes du Ciel’ identifies the edition."

"It has a leather interior in the Gaucho color which is reminiscent of the natural leather used in airplanes in the past. This natural material is contrasted with aluminum trims and an aluminum inlay featuring the ‘Les Légendes du Ciel’ logo, which also features on the headrests."

"On the door panels, there is a sketch of a racing scene between the Nieuport 17 airplane and a Bugatti Type 13 that represents the two historical links commemorated by the limited edition hyper sports car."

This relationship between aircraft and Bugatti automobiles has led the way in its shape and design over the years. It is quite sleek and beautiful!

Performing Arts

Like a dance, the video (shown below) had to be choreographed between the Chiron Sport (piloted by Pierre-Henri Raphanel) and the Rafale Marine aircraft (piloted by frigate captain Etienne).

“Precision and preparation are everything. Everything happens very quickly in the Rafale Marine and every move you make has to be right. And the same goes for the Chiron Sport at high speeds,” - Etienne

“At high speeds, everything has to go perfectly both in the Chiron Sport and the Rafale Marine. Because the runway isn’t all that long or terribly wide for the both of us. This comparison will be a challenge for everyone,” - Pierre-Henri Raphanel

Appreciate The Beauty

Always appreciate the beauty and planning that goes into the aircraft and the automobile. Discover the history and craftmanship behind the scene to enjoy the video even more.
