LEGENDS : SEAT LEON CUPRA

Apart from their recent Nürburgring successes, SEAT (pronounced 'Say-at'), has always lived in the shadow of their illustrious brother, the Volkswagen Golf. And while the brand was sold in SA in the late 2000s, it's still a rare sight to sport their 'hot-hatch' offering the Seat Leon Cupra (pronounced Lay-on), on our roads. Those in the know, know the potential of this car. It had a great chassis, but the best part was its motor. It was powered by a 2.0TFSI (BWJ) engine that put out 177kw and 300nm, and channeled that power to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. One area where the car was stupendously fast was in-gear acceleration. The Cupra accelerated from 0 to 100kph in only 6.4 secs. Furthermore, it covered the first 1000 metres in only 26.4 secs. From the outside, the Cupra demanded attention. Its exclusive front bumper had larger air intakes than usual in order to enable sufficient airflow to cool the 177kw engine, which purred away under the chiseled bonnet. An outstanding feature at the rear of the car was the lower section’s black finish, which emulated the SEAT León WTCC’s diffuser. The Leon Cupra managed to be fast, furious – and comfortable. You really got a lot of car for the R264 000 asking price back in 2008. #SALegends #TunedAutomotive #SomeShitAboutCars
