Let's suppose you have a time machine, and can go into the past, just once, to meet someone from the history of motoring.
I'd be tempted to meet Dr. C. Hunter Shelden. He is credited with the idea of the retractable seat belt in an automobile. Without his invention, I think we'd have a lot more serious injuries and deaths. (I, for one, don't like the idea of mashing my head into the steering wheel).

Lee Iacocca. Had his hand in some bad ass stuff (not least of all the Ford LeMans program).
I have to go with this one - my grandfather had some dealings with him in the '60s and '70s, and (apparently) always spoke highly of him - he apparently used to complain that we'd have an Italian-American President already if Hollywood...

John Fitch. When I was @15 I saw him pull up in his Fitch Phoenix, and just starred at the car and read the little information plaque he had. Saw him being greeted by the Lime Rock staff as a celebrity and just chatted with people taking pictures of the car. No Idea of who he was. Such a crazy life.

It has to be John Delorean for me! Not only because of the DMC-12, but also because of his phenomenal work with GM!
