Lewis Hamilton's Younger Brother Nicholas Is An Inspiration
Lewis may have multiple World Champion brother but Nicholas Hamilton has overcome a severe disability to carve his own path in the motorsports world
To become a professional racing driver you need fast reflexes, enormous courage and God given talent. Even in the "Regional" series you need immense ability to compete. Lewis Hamilton was touched with all the abilities that make up a World Champion and he took those talents to three (with a fourth all but a certainty) Formula 1 World Championships. But you know his story, the story you may not know is that of his younger brother Nicholas.
Nicholas was born premature, as a result his brain didn't fully develop leading to the condition known as Cerebral Palsy (CP). CP affects body movement, muscle control, muscle coordination, muscle tone, reflex, posture and balance. It can also impact fine motor skills, gross motor skills and oral motor functioning. All conditions that all but rule out a career in motorsports. Not for young Nicholas, he forged his own path in motorsports, starting on video games and currently sees him racing in the British Touring Car Championship.
HBO's real sports did a profile on the racing brothers and it is absolutely worth 12 minutes of your time. Theirs is a story of Family, love and perseverance. Say what you will about Lewis, his family's racing story is a good one.
