Lexus rumoured to build its own version of the upcoming GR 86
Would you buy a hybrid GR 86 with a fancy interior?
The 2022 Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR 86 have generated quite the interest amongst enthusiasts as the cars address many complaints of the previous generation. However, the interior remains anything but luxurious, forcing consumers who want a little extra flair in the cabin to look elsewhere.
To fill this void in the market, Lexus is rumoured to produce their own version of the GR 86 with a unique cabin and a hybrid powertrain. Japanese automotive website, Spyder7, claims that the vehicle is already in the works. The 2.4L naturally aspirated four-pot could receive a mild hybrid boost, increasing the standard 228hp and 184lb-ft of torque.
We have no idea what the vehicle will be called, but it is unlikely to be a replacement for the midsized Lexus RC. If anything, we would like to see the redemption of the Lexus SC nameplate but of course, that car competed amongst expensive grand tourers, not affordable sports cars. Based on Lexus' current naming convention, the car in question might be called the UC (Urban Coupe).
