Life is Short, Roads Are Long...
I just about cut my life short, now I have a long road ahead.
One day, not so long ago, I set out on a journey of self discovery. Time was dragging me down, I was in a rut of sorts and so I decided to chase down one of my dreams. I cashed in my life savings, bought one of my dream cars, and hit the open road, in search of a life changing event.
I've encountered two of these "events" now. The first was my arrest for allegedly threatening the Prime Minister, and the second being my crash six weeks ago. My mom used to say I should never ride a motorcycle, and that I should get involved in politics. "You would make a good politician," she used to say. I do have the gift for gab, from time to time at least. I don't think mom meant I should stand against the government though, but I think she knew that's how it would go.
Pissing off the highest levels of government was never a part of my plan. I did want to include a protest against photo-radar in my journey, I was hoping I could prove it was a scam and maybe get the people their money back. That side project was basically put on hold the day of my arrest. I had to move to a new place shortly thereafter, and the quest was delayed for even longer.
My new home found me just off Highway 22, officially known as Cowboy Trail. There is no photo-radar in Drayton Valley, so I decided the next leg of my adventure should take me down 22, where I would continue exploring Alberta, the self, and filming as many 'your speed' signs as I could find.

I then had my most brilliant idea ever; I'll get a motorcycle, and ride Cowboy Trail! How cool is that? At the time, I thought it was fantastic; me on an iron horse, riding the Cowboy Trail... So I bought a 1997 Harley Davidson Fatboy, took it out on the highway, and crashed it into a barrier at 100km/h. The bike is fine, it is still rideable. It just needs fenders, a tank and lights. I wont be making the ride down 22 anytime soon though.

It still needs a tune-up...

Four fractured vertebrae, left arm separated, broken hip, broken right femur, broken left ankle, some road rash here and there. Oh, and a broken nose. Twenty-four days in the hospital and two weeks recovering at home. It is quite a lot to go through, but the experience has exposed my "true self." I now know what I'm made of (both figuratively and literally,) I have discovered the part of me that I was searching for. I am strong willed. I'm tougher than the core of a dead red giant and more determined to exist than the Universe itself. It sucks I had to pick a fight with a road barrier to find myself, but that's what happened and I'm alright with it.
It seems to me that the second act of this odd tale has found conclusion. I succeeded in finding myself, now I must find my place in this world. The road just got longer so I might as well start making a mile. I just need to hit Wal-Mart first...
