Limited edition hardcore Hilux revealed

Before anybody launches into the comments to tell me that the Hilux is “already hardcore you buffoon, read a book and watch Top Gear!”

Seen better days?

I agree - the Hilux is one of the legends of the motoring world and is without a doubt, a hardcore machine.

But now there is a hardcore “racing version” of the invincible Japanese pickup and it looks pretty snazzy.

Toyota unveiled the new Hilux GR Sport at the Sao Paulo international motor show (GR representing Gazoo Racing…they do that rally thing for Toyota) and is the first Toyota in Latin America to get the honour of wearing the Gazoo Racing marque. It will be limited to just 420 units, all built at the manufacturers Zarate plant in Buenos Aires.

In addition to a sportier look, the GR is equipped with a specially configured suspension system to help it tackle fast gravel tracks and will be powered by the tried and tested 2.8 - litre turbo diesel found across the brand.

The tinkering of the suspension includes hardened front springs and the addition of double tube dampers, all designed to work with specifically selected vales that refine the Hilux’s handling whilst gunning it on gravel roads.

Add the exterior styling touch ups of Gazoo Racing’s signature stripes in white, black and red on the body as well as “Toyota” emblazoned on the front grille, all nestled on 17 inch alloys and hey presto, you have yourself a Hilux GR sport ready to shoot you down a dirt track somewhere.

The tweaks don’t stop as you step inside the cab either. The Hilux GR has been equipped with perforated leather with red stitching, as well as reminders around the place that Gazoo Racing have had a lot do to with refining this work horse. There is space for a lovely start button, GR branded floor mates, the all important numbered interior plate and the GR logo on the front of the head rests.

What do you think of the Hilux GR?

    • It's the basic hilux we have so it gets steel wheels and grey plastic bumpers and a basic interior. Similar to the trucks the UN use

  • If they use the 4.0 V6 that is being used in the middle east, I would buy one in a heartbeat.
