London Motor Show builds momentum for future years

DriveTribers do us proud in the Biggest Car Nerd of Britain Quiz-off

Nearly 30,000 visitors flocked to the London Motor Show last weekend, building its reputation as a future showcase for the British car industry.

Hailed more as a family day out compared to traditional Motor Shows, the four-day event included a busy schedule of main stage talks and presentations, a separate arena of wheel screeching driving demonstrations and two adjoining exhibition halls stuffed with cars and industry suppliers.

While not billed as an arena for launching cars, the event had three debuts. MG pulled the wraps off its first ever EV, the ZS Electric, aiming to re-kindle the brand’s growing presence in the UK and global markets. While Hyundai used the event as a UK show debut for its Tucson N-Line performance SUV. Finally, Noble provided the first public reveal of the stunning M500.

DriveTribe's biggest car nerd quiz, a worthy winner

Amongst the highlights on the main stage, DriveTribe’s “Biggest Car Nerd in Britain” quiz was a sure crowd-pleaser. Held in two heats and one final compered by TV presenter Mike Brewer, the event was the culmination of 350 online entries whittled down to ten main stage contestants.

Of those ten, two made it through to the grand-final to face TV presenters Fuzz Townshend and Tim Shaw from Car SOS, as well as renown petrolhead, motoring journalist Craig Cheetham.

The stakes were high, both our finalists - Christian Jones and Harry Holmes - had risen early and travelled far for their moment of glory, one from Manchester the other from Wigan.

So, it was just deserts when Christian Jones reigned supreme, narrowly beating Tim Shaw into second place as he rightly proved the prowess of a DriveTribe quiz aficionado.

According to Christian the victory not only made his day, it made his year! A very deserving winner .

Aside from quizzes and fun-related presentations from celebrities, the main stage also played host to World Car Awards co-president and juror Mike Rutherford, who revealed the nominee cars for the 2020 awards.

Rutherford explained “It’s great to see the London Motor and Tech Show recognised as one of the most important platforms from which to promote the achievements of our industry, especially given the UK’s global presence in the industry. The industry is dependent on shows like this to promote the importance of the car industry, the evolution and the amazing technology behind it.”

Having played such a major part in many of the main stage events, Mr Wheeler Dealer himself, Mike Brewer, summed-up the event saying: “The show is unique in that the visitors become part of the show themselves, with so many interactive elements.”

The final word goes to London Motor and Tech Show CEO, Andy Entwistle: “We now have the blueprint for taking this event and growing it. Next year we expect to be back even bigger, with more cars, more brands and more dynamic content for all the family. We challenge the industry to get behind the event and help support the UK in delivering an international show that we can be proud of”.
