This is my first article, and an opportunity like this almost never comes up. No-one else was talking about it so I decided to post it here.

A set of two images, showing a bodyshell and an assortment of parts, were posted on subreddit r/namethatcar. Although the user deleted the original post (comments, the images were re-posted elsewhere. The posts received a large amount of attention, with many users identifying it as a Bugatti Type 57, many guessing it to be the missing one of four Type 57SC Atlantics, built in 1937 as a tribute to french pilot Jean Mermoz. While three of the four cars created have been recorded, restored, and auctioned off for massive sums to private owners (including Ralph Lauren), one, dubbed the La Voiture Noire (The Black Car) has alluded car enthusiasts since the cars first became sought after. Some even claimed it to be the lost 1935 Aerolithe concept car, built as a prototype.

User u/oldhaggus2 debunked the Aerolithe claims, and stated that the bodyshell was likely to be a replica, noting its expensive aluminium construction. If it was meant for a replica, it would likely be made of fibreglass. Adding further weight to the claims, the bulkhead was noted to be a original, (or very accurate replica,) from a Bugatti T57.

Supposedly, the poster claimed to have the car verified as a Type 57, at the very least. However, since the original posts have been deleted, I could not verify this, and they could. The owner apparently passed away, leaving the car to sit for 10 years.

Of course, we can't say for certain that it isn't a rep, or a base t57 modified to resemble a rarer model, but we will have to see. It is most likely a red-herring, after all why would you keep one of the most sought after cars secret. Still I thought it was worth mentioning, and even if it is fake, I'm interested to see where this goes, and I will keep you updated.
