- The kind of car that I would expect to make stupid amounts noise

Loud cars are just obnoxious

Is it really needed?

Firstly, I need to say that in certain situations have a car which is quite loud is enjoyable, say at a race circuit. Who doesn't love the sound of a naturally aspirated V10 F1 car revving to nearly 20,000 rpm? But, On the road is this really necessary? Sure, it can be nice to hear a V12 screaming as it overtakes you, or if you are lucky enough as you drive it. I'm not saying that I hate all cars that make excessive quantities of noise or that I don't appreciate certain loud cars. However, I find it infuriating when I'm trying to enjoy a nice walk, run or bike ride (because I'm such a fit and healthy human being, not) in nature to hear some idiot who's only just got their licence and probably hasn't properly insured their car (usually, although not always) going stupid speeds with straight pipes. No, your car doesn't sound nice; yes, you look like an idiot (I've used a semi-colon, fancy). I just don't understand it, in some ways it's even worse in built up areas where more people have to be subjected to their fumes, noise and idiocy. Personally, I have never understood loud cars in the majority of public places, it is quite simply anti-social.

Let me know what you think in the comments and thanks for reading (some proper articles should be coming soon, depending on motivation).

  • Well, I like cars to be loud and brash, but when I'm enjoying peace-A big NO NO. And if the noise is coming by modifications and is not stock-BIGGEST NO!!!!!!!

    • I agree, there is a time and a place most cars are loud enough stock anyway and stupid modifications just make the situation worse

  • There's a 22 y/o polo in my neighborhood making so much noise that every time they start it, you think the aliens are coming

    • 😆 I have a really loud defender near me (along with some other cars more occasionally) and the guy drives stupidly quick, even in the 30

    • Poor Defender

  • That's true, but the noise normally comes from 17 year olds in their mum's battered Mk4 Golf on spacesavers that is stuck in first gear. Most loud cars are never loud when they aren't meant to be, it's almost always down to the driver.

    • Maybe, have you not had experience of the person you decides to redline it in every gear whilst doing 50 in a 30? I agree, most unmodified cars are only loud when they should be and it is 99% of the time the driver being a twat.

  • I like loud cars, I don't necessarily need a very loud one myself but it makes me smile when I'm in the garden or somewhere and hear a loud engine from the distance

    • Really? Sometimes it's nice but usually I just find it annoying

    • Yeah, it probaly depends on how often you hear it. Here I mainly hear birds singing and a train driving by once in a while, so a loud car noise is an exception and alternation for me. If I heard loud cars all day long I'd probably be annoyed by it as...

  • Lound cars are awesome unless it's an absolute idiot who has an everyday car like the one guy near me who has a honda accord completely base price nothing cool but has a ridiculously stupid exhaust on and drives like an idiot. it all depends on the car!

    • I agree, a car you drive occasionally and sensibly that is reasonably loud is cool but at least to me there is a definite limit.
