Lynn joins Jaguar Formula E team as reserve, ART completes 2020 F3 line-up
Alex Lynn will return to FIA Formula E Championship as Jaguar Racing reserve, while ART Grand Prix has completed its 2020 FIA Formula 3 (F3) Championship line-up.
With the second Formula E round in the 2019/20 season a couple of weeks away, Jaguar announced the return of Lynn as its reserve and test driver, as he joins ambassador Ho-Pin Tung and regulars, Mitch Evans and James Calado.
Lynn raced for Jaguar in 2018/19 season as a replacement for Nelson Piquet Jr but the team signed Calado instead for 2019/20 Formula E season. The British racer, though, continued with Aston Martin Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
But he will make his Formula E return with Jaguar for the remainder of the 2019/20 season alongside his WEC commitments. "I am excited to be re-joining the Panasonic Jaguar Racing team and returning to Formula E," said Lynn.
"I am familiar with the Championship, the team, their goals and how they work. I look forward to playing my part in helping the team achieve their objectives." At the same time, Jaguar Formula E team boss James Barclay added:
"Mitch and James are an exciting combination and they will be strongly supported by Alex throughout the season. Alex is not only a very talented and accomplished driver, he also has valuable experience in Formula E and a great relationship with our team.
"That experience and relationship will be highly beneficial to our ongoing development. Winning races can only be achieved if you have a hard working, talented team around you. Bringing Alex back into the fold helps us achieve that."
Outside Formula E, ART completed its F3 line-up for the 2020 season with the announcement of Sebastian Fernandez, who joins Alexander Smolyar and Theo Pourchaire, in the third car. It will be the Venezuelan-Spanish driver's second year in the series.
Fernandez did not score in his first F3 season with Campos Racing and first raced for ART in Macau GP, where he finished 15th. "I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to work with a team which has such a strong trajectory for the 2020 season," he said.
"I have already worked with them at the Macau GP and the Valencia tests, where I felt really good. With a team like ART Grand Prix I believe together we can achieve some very good results in the upcoming season."
ART Team Principal Sebastien Philippe added: "Sebastian is only 19 years old but he already has a vast experience in motorsport and in particular, F3. This experience is a major asset in such a cutting-edge championship.
"His first appearance in Macau was solid, he made progress all weekend. During the Valencia tests, he showed the team that he listens well and that he can work diligently with all the members of the team to make the best of his skills. In 2020, he will have all he needs to be regularly in the points and fighting with the front runners."
