Mach 1 Mustang spied testing at the 'Ring
And you can bet your bottom dollar that it sounds tremendous!
Time for me to jump back on my hype train for the new Mustang Mach 1. Which is technically the correct way of saying it. You don't say a Hellcat Challenger, its the Challenger Hellcat, but for some reason, Mach 1 Mustang works. Anyhow, naming fripperies out of the way, the Mach 1 has broken cover, it feels like ages since I heralded its coming, but now we've got some footage of the brute in action.
It sounds absolutely brilliant, with a boomy exhaust that wouldn't sound out of place in the iconic chase scene from Bullett (Yes, that was just a GT with the 390 engine, but it sounds eerily similar). Pounding around Mr May's most beloved of test circuits this new tenor exhaust note is killer. Looks pretty planted too!
Can't deny, that looks poised!
Bear in mind we're talking 480bhp of RWD goodness, you'd expect it to be rather lairy. But a highly effective chin spoiler keeps the nose glued down, and to help the rear end follow it the Mach 1 is fitted with "MagneRide". Magnetorheological dampers with an updated calibration over previous versions, stiffer sway bars, stiffer rear bushings, and the Shelby GT500's unique rear toe link. From the factory, the Mach 1 comes equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, worn on 19x9.5 inch five-spoke alloy wheels up front, and 19x10 inch wheels at the rear. But tick the box that says 'Handling Pack' and your Mustang will be seen to by the farrier and shod with 10.5 and 11 inch wide shoes, front and rear respectively.
So, things are looking good for the Mach 1, and I'm itching to drive one even more. Better start making some phone calls I suppose...
