Man Down!

Rest in Peace Sweet Prince.

I work in the heart of the Motor City and see a wide range of cars on my commute to and from the office: from old to new, luxury SUVs to stripped out track stars, I've seen it. However, none of them have tugged on my heart strings quite like the green Miata that has been sitting in my structure for over a month now.

This sad sight has been the first and last thing I see when entering and leaving the parking structure at work, and it is just soul crushing. From someone who also drives a car that has been on this earth for more than ten years, I know the financial and emotional investment that comes with the territory. And while I personally do not own a MX-5, I love these things because they never fail slap a smile on my stupid face, whether on the road or parked. This scene achieved the opposite though. This is because you can see how much the owner loved it. It was always clean, inside and out. I mean the driver's seat has plastic covering over it and the interior is in immaculate condition!

It's pretty easy to piece together how this tragedy occurred: someone coming into work cut the right-hand turn short and in doing so, pushed the little Mazda into the adjacent parking space while rearranging its face. Now it sits collecting dust. I am not sure who the owner is or what he/she plans on doing with it at this point, but I hope that the price tag associated with rebuilding or replacing this green machine is not too high to discourage the owner from driving something they love every day.
