Man keeps stealing car from elderly couple... returns it every night

A woman in Houston said she didn’t realize her car was missing throughout the night until she started to notice the mileage adding up. That’s when Beverly Havard suspected someone had taken her car for a joyride without her permission.

"I said, 'Somebody's driving my car and bringing it back. I know I'm not crazy,’” she said.

It was little things, like the mirror being adjusted differently, that tipped her off.

"The seat was pulled back and the mirrors were adjusted," she said.

Texas police said someone was using the Havard’s van as a getaway car during other vehicle break-ins.

Authorities arrested Michael Armando Lopez after they discovered him with the Havard’s vehicle. When they tried to stop him, though, he drove off and crashed the van into a pole.

Now, Havard and her husband don't have a way to get around. Beverly Havard said her husband has a disability, and the van was specially designed for him.

"I had to cancel his doctor's appointment," she said. "I hope he's [the thief] satisfied that he took advantage of an elderly person that's very sick and that can't be transported to go anywhere."
