When news broke out earlier in the year that Ferrari would no longer be so invested in the production of Maserati cars, the brand’s future seemed a little uncertain. However, it seems it has remained on its feet with a new roadmap including some very interesting models.

This new plan Maserati has laid out is the perfect opportunity to unleash the Alfieri concept into the real world. In fact, the Alfieri first saw light at the Geneva Motor Show over five years ago and was immediately met with adoration for its design. For some reason though, it has never made the production line-up alongside the GranTurismo and GranCabrio.

With the brand’s two current sportscars slowly fading into the past before being updated in 2021, 2020 was always expected to be the dashing concept’s time to shine. Finally, that forecast has been confirmed by the Italian manufacturer with a quick tweet simply mentioning May 2020 and the company’s ‘new era’.

Although not much is known about the upcoming sportscar, Maserati has previously said that it will come both in coupe and convertible form, just like the GranTurismo it’s replacing. Furthermore, we know that there will be the choice of a fully electric drivetrain or to have the car as a plug-in hybrid. Maserati is supposedly aiming for a top speed exceeding 300kph and a 0-100kph time around the 2-second mark.

Once the Alfieri makes its debut, Maserati will have its hands full in making sure it brings out all the models it wants to on time. In total, a further four brand-new models are expected to hit the market by the end of 2022 including a totally original mid-size family car to compete with the likes of the Mercedes C-Class and BMW 3-Series.
