Maserati teases the Grecale compact SUV
The Levante's little brother will arrive at the end of the year
After the presentation of the small MC20 supercar, Maserati does not intend to relax. Indeed, the MC20 may please the fans, but it is clearly not the one that will save the trident from bankruptcy. The Italian brand must keep up with market demand in order to survive.
As a result, the next vehicle in the range will be a small SUV. After a first unclear teaser, Maserati continues with a second image that is already more meaningful. The Levante's little brother will be called the Grecale. It will therefore naturally be more compact and less expensive than the Levante. It will also be more sporty than its big brother.
The overall silhouette of the Grecale is a typical Maserati SUV with a sloping bonnet and a straight roofline that makes it more spacious. The Grecale will be based on the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and will therefore share certain technologies. Under the bonnet, on the other hand, the Grecale gets a complete makeover.
There will be a 2.0-litre petrol with 48V mild hybridization and most probably the 3.0-litre V6 equipping the new MC20. It will only see its power reduced to around 550 PS. The arrival of plug-in hybrid engines is also possible. The Maserati Grecale will be presented at the end of the year.
