MATT LEBLANC QUITS TOP GEAR!

IT'S BEEN GOING FROM BAD TO WORSE FOR THE TOP GEAR TEAM SINCE THE DEPARTURE OF CLARKSON, HAMMOND, AND MAY

I’m sure everyone here is aware of the “Fracas” that abruptly ended Top Gear in 2015, well things haven’t been going well for the new Top Gear team. Firstly, they were laughed at by replacing 3 presenters with 7, and I can see why. Although technically Jeremy is an 8-foot orangutan his shoes aren’t THAT big to fill.

Next, after one series LeBlanc threatened to leave the show unless Chris Evans went as he was very unpopular on the show. Which seemed to impress Clarkson, Hammond and May.

Now it seems the luck has almost run out for the BBC as Matt LeBlanc has now decided that 2019 will be his last year as Top Gear presenter. LeBlanc signed a deal with the BBC to do 3 series of Top Gear, which is why the BBC let Chris Evans go as Matt had signed the longest contract. According to various newspapers LeBlanc said that “Top Gear takes him away from family and friends more than I’m comfortable with”. In many ways I can see his point, if you’re not happy doing something. Don’t do it. It will make you unhappy.

But that leaves the question. What will happen with Top gear? Will the show end? Will Rory Reid or Chris Harris step up to the plate and take over? Will someone else step in?

The new Top Gear never appealed to me, which was a shame, as I’ve been watching Top Gear since the age of 6. I used to rush home from school, have 2 biscuits and an Apple and watch Top Gear repeats on Dave. I mean I had literally no idea what they were saying or what anything meant but I loved it.

So, when the new Top Gear was launched in May 2016 and me and a mate of mine were on a May half-term break in Dorset decided to stay up late one night and watch it on BBC iPlayer, I was disappointed and slightly heartbroken that it didn’t live up to my expectations.

Don’t get me wrong I didn’t like all the episodes of old Top Gear, there were some bits which I hated, but new Top gear just wasn’t it for me.

I haven’t been so keen on some episodes of the Grand Tour especially the ‘Unscripted’ episode in series 2, and I hated “The American” and ‘Celebrity Brain Crash’, however slowly the trio seem to be returning to that same humour and hatred that brought in 350 million viewers to Top Gear every week.

I’m excited to see what they future of Top Gear will be and what the future of the Grand Tour will be, as there were rumours that they Grand Tour would be axed after series 3, but only time will tell.

  • BBC now need to admit they are struggling on replacing the three others even 2 years on. If I was Amazon I would by out the top gear brand and run it as their first non pay tv program on another channel like Dave or likewise. Plus the other three could give, if they come over, the two presenters left tips on how to keep the show successful. Same could be said if they have a new presenter.

  • I prefer The Grand Tour. And after LeBlanc leaves, I would like Ned Luke, Shawn Fonteno and Stephen Ogg to host the new show from season 27.

    • I’d like Gordon Ramsay to present it

  • I think they were just starting to find their feet in some episodes of the last series of top gear. Leblanc could be both brilliant and awful in the same episode though!
