Mazda CX-30 Expected to Get 250 Horsepower Turbo Engine For 2021
The lifted Mazda 3 just became a lot cooler.
1. It is expected to arrive later this year.
2. It will receive the same engine as many other Mazda models.
This 2.5-liter I-4 engine isn't new, it is already available on the CX-5, 6 sedan, and CX-9. Adding it to a smaller SUV should make a huge difference in performance, we'll just have to hope it happens. Assuming this engine does appear on the CX-30, it will most likely end up being the most fun SUV of its size and price. With 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque, this engine brings a significant power increase over the base, 186 horsepower engine it has now. Similar to the 2021 Mazda 3, which is receiving this same engine later this year, it will only be available with all wheel drive and an automatic transmission. This isn't bad, however, because most buyers will equip all wheel drive and an automatic anyway. A few appearance items come with the new engine, black wheels, different badging, and a larger exhaust tip should all be included when equipped with this engine.
Pricing will go up, as expected, you don't get 60 horsepower for free! It is reported that the pricing will be $31,000 for the base turbo model, that's about $10,000 more than the standard CX-30 with the 186 horsepower engine. With that being said, however, this 250 horsepower engine should start being available on a higher trim level, which means more features will arrive with it.
The Mazda CX-30 in its current form is fun to drive, so adding 60 horsepower will only be a good thing. Production is said to start in November of this year, so I would expect to see them for sale early next Autumn.
