I know. I know. What is possibly crossing your mind is how could that be with Ferrari, Lambo, Aston Martin and all the other super car and the sports car makers. Surely, I'm not suggesting that the Mazda2 is more beautiful than an Aston Martin DB11 for example. Or more striking than the sporty Vantage or in fact more jaw-dropping than the new DBS Superleggera. But I am, if you are in the market for a small hatchback. For that market the outright appeal of the Mazda2 way surpasses any Aston.
This is not just true for the smallest car in the brand's catalog. The above gallery is the entire passenger car range Mazda has on sale in South Africa and they are all pretty to behold. In fact they lead in the looks department in all their relevant segments. Therefore, it is fair to assume if Mazda were to build a super car or a sports car, it would be better looking than the current baton holders = best looking cars. If I'm honest, Alfa Romeo runs it close but they need a few more cars and years.
On a serious note and forgetting for a moment that Mazdas are good cars to drive as well, it is their appreciation of that emotional attraction that comes with car ownership that is to be lauded. For that reason it makes me happy that fittingly the company has enjoyed its third straight record sales figures.
While other brands try worm their way out of conservatism (looking in the direction of Audi and Toyota), Mazda puts its foot on the right-most pedal by revealing the Kai concept which previews the next Mazda3. Uhm... ...the back of my hand is bleeding.
