McLaren Elva will be street-legal in US, but it might need a windshield
The McLaren Elva is an incredible machine, made more so with the absence of a windshield. A twin-turbo 803-horsepower V8 will make that quite an experience. However, you might not be able to get that experience everywhere.
Speaking with CarBuzz, McLaren confirmed its commitment to sell the Elva in all major markets. However, for many, safety requirements include a windshield. McLaren will offer that piece "available at no cost," which will include some "tweaks to the aero" to fit the piece.
The company has released only one picture of the car with the windshield fitted. Some of that change is visible on the hood, with the large scoop removed. That is fitted to the car as part of the Active Air Management System, directing air out of the scoop and over the cockpit. With the windshield, that's no longer necessary.
In the US, the laws on this "vary depending on the state." US buyers can opt for the windshield whether or not it's required in the state. In some, though, there won't be an option. However, part of the beauty of this car is its lack of a windshield.
