McLaren have been in the news quite a bit lately, with it only being recently released that they are mortgaging their Woking HQ and historic car collection to raise funds due to the drop in business as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. This somewhat concerning news does not seem to have stopped the wheels turning at McLaren completely however, with their latest ‘by MSO’ edition car breaking cover today.

Whilst all of the North American allocation of 600LT spiders have already been purchased, those who missed out may have another crack at owning one of the twelve special edition Segestria Borealis 600LT Spiders.

The hike in price may be hard to justify to all but the most dedicated of collectors however, as the only changes unique to this limited-run model are purely superficial. Featuring custom paint and interior design inspired by the venomous spider Segestria Florentina, these limited-edition cars carry an MSRP of $275,000 which is nearly $75,000 extra compared to the cost of standard 600LT Spider.

One perk to the Segestria Borealis 600LT Spider however is that the MSO Clubsport pack is also included in the price, which adds super lightweight Carbon Fibre racing seats, Carbon Fibre interior parts, MSO Defined gloss visual carbon fibre front fender louvres and even lightweight titanium wheel bolts to save a few extra lbs.

The paintwork of the car draws its inspiration from the Segestria Florentina spider, with the fangs of the spider being represented by twin Napier Green stripes running from the nose of the 600LT spider through to the top-exit exhausts at the rear, whilst the Borealis Black MSO Defined paint represents the body of the spider, changing between deep green, purple and claret tones depending on the angle of the light.

MSO Bespoke brake callipers also feature, again in Napier Green as a statement piece, whilst further Napier Green features come in the form of various web motifs on the bodywork and pinstripe detailing on the front fender, side skirts and rear diffuser.

I hope the buyers are a fan of green, as even the interior features plenty of it. MSO Bespoke bright green stitching and webbing feature on the custom-trimmed race seats, headrest embroidery, steering wheel stitching and even the motorsport-inspired 12 o’clock mark on the steering wheel is bright green. There is plenty of tech inside the cabin too, with a Bowers & Wilkins audio system and McLaren Track Telemetry, whilst a rear view camera and parking sensors make daily life with the 600LT Spider a breeze.

There are no changes to the power output or transmission of the Segestria Borealis by MSO 600LT Spiders however, retaining the standard 3.8l, twin-turbo V8 of the standard 600LT spider, putting out a very healthy 592hp and 457 lb-ft of torque, propelling the 600LT Spider from 0-60 in just 2.8 seconds.

No about there will be some polarising opinions of this latest ‘By MSO’ special edition McLaren, but regardless of your personal opinions, there’s no doubt they will be prized by collectors for their rarity and limited nature - lets just hope they see the road too!
