Apart from been a drifter David's also what's termed as a ''car head'' I've known him since I lived in Waterford way back in 2007/2008, 10 years this year. I first got to know David through where he worked in Waterford, a car shop/tuners/garage called Xtreme Autos, in Waterford City. You'd often meet David on the road to the local drag spot or at car meets/cruises. Moving back from Waterford I didnt see him for a long time but then in 2013 when we did a calendar shoot for the car forum I owned at the time, he appeared with his r34 and it was like old times the craic was had and lots of pictures were taken.
Sarah: So David, introduce yourself to Drivetribe and people who don't know you as well as I do!
David: My name is David Garvey and i drive the Dealtwidth ps13 in pro-am in the Irish Drift Championship.
Sarah:What age were you when you first got behind the wheel?
David: I was 17 when I got my first rear wheel drive car it was a 318is bmw.
Sarah: What was the next step for you after that?
David: I started doing practice days and street drifting.
Sarah: What was your first 'legal' set of wheels?
David: My first set of wheels was a wide arch Williams Renault Clio replica.
Sarah: What first caught your attention about drifting?
David: The smoke, the power of the cars and the skill of the drivers competing.
Sarah: What age were you then?
David: I was around 15 when I went to watch my first drift event and was hooked from there on.
Sarah: What made you think, I could actually do that? ?
David:I used to do a lot of street drifting and I said I'd give the competition side of it a go.
Sarah: Ah yes I remember those days!
Sarah:What was your first proper competition car?
David:My first drift car was a s13 with ca18det engine in it.
Sarah: Why did you pick the car that you have now?
David: Reason i choose my ps13 is that it's a proven chassis for drifting, easy to source parts and also I've always loved the look of the ps13 real old school.
Sarah:So you've been a spectator and a competitor. Has it good side bad sides etc?
David:From both sides of the fence has been good for me as I'm cheering my little brother on in the Irish Amateur Drift Championship but i do be more nervous watching him out in battles then when I'm competing myself.
Sarah: Best aspect of drifting for you personally?
David: The best aspect in drifting for me is the people involved in it as it's like a family everyone looks after each other and helps everyone out.
Sarah: Whose you best friend(s) you've made through drifting? Why?
David:Over the years I've made lots of good friends from drifting but it's hard to pick one over the others.
Sarah: Have you got any advise for anyone wanting to get into drifting?
David:Try stay inside your budget because you can get caught up in the big money and big power race. Drifting is all about having fun.
Sarah: Are you glad/happy you got into drifting? Why?
David: Yes I am glad I got into drifting as I wouldn't have met all the awesome people I met along the way and got to drift in the coolest of events.
Sarah:One thing you hate about drifting from any aspect of it?
David: To be honest I don't hate anything about drifting.
Sarah:Tell us a random fact about your drifting career to date?
David: First thing I ever drifted was a tractor lol
Sarah: If you could meet or battle against one other famous world known drifter who would it be and why?
David: It would have to be Luke Fink because every time he goes out on track he is all or nothing and won't lift against you so you no you can go as hard as you can go.
Sarah: Endless amount of money for a new car and build what would it be and why?
David: It would be a r35 GTR skyline as I just love the look and sound of them.
Sarah: When it's time for retirement what do you want to be remembered for in the drifting world?
David: That I always had the crack and that I will never lift and I will go through you lol
