Meet the Drivetriber is already back with a new interview, surprisingly right? If this is the first time you come across this kind of post, let's just say that MTD is a series of interviews to all the volunteer Drivetribers who want to answer some question and give the community the occasion to know them a little better. More info down here.

Today I'm going to ask some questions to Ferdi Kamphuis, if you fancy weird quizzes, then you should definitely follow Ferdi, I suggest you to have a look at his profile and have some fun!

Also he turned the spotlight on an interesting subject, please give a read to this post.

Where are you from?

I'm born and raised in a city in the east of the Netherlands near Germany, in a city called Oldenzaal.

What do you do?

I’m currently still in middle school. Upcoming year is my last year.

How did you join Drivetribe?

I joined Drivetribe by downloading the app and setting up an account. I don’t know anymore why or when I joined, somewhere in the beginning of 2019 if I remember correctly.

What's your daily drive?

I'm 17 so I don't really own a car but my mum owns a 2010 Opel Zafira B 1.8 Cosmo. It's a good steering car and very practical And NOT boring

What's your favorite classic car?

Pff hard question. I like a lot of classic cars but when you talk about the ultimate classic car, I think it would be something British. I think in that case it would be the Aston Martin DB5. But on the other hand I’d love to own a classic Volvo, like a P1800. So I think it’s gonna be the Aston Martin DB5 and the Volvo P1800. For now...

What's your favorite modern car?

There are lots of great modern cars made the last decade. For me it depends on what I want, if I’m looking for a comfortable long distance car I'll go for the Volvo S60 Polestar. If i’m looking for a car I would drive on a nice curved road I think it either would be the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S manual or the Lotus Exige S V6.

What do you think of electric cars?

I know we as humankind are now destroying the whole world and ourselves with it. So we basically need to get rid of the engines as we know, with fossil fuel. I think electric cars aren’t really the answer to this problem, not only because the energy now comes from fossil sources but mainly because the battery’s are using very rare materials. I think electricity is going to help us reduce the emission with hybrids. I think the only solution will be a whole new concept. Maybe it’s gonna be hydrogen but the disadvantage of that now is that it still costs more electricity to store energy in it then you get back when you use it.

Automatic or manual?

I'll go for manual all the way, It just feels better that you’re actually doing something to keep the car going. And because you need to attend and you need 2 hands. So I think it might actually be safer.

What are your hobbies?

My hobbies are gaming, browsing DT and making do-it-yourself (I’ve translated this sooo😂) cars and lorrys. I play mostly FH2, FH3 and GTA5, occasionally Euro truck simulator 2 or FH4, i play on xbox and pc and have a Thustmaster wheel.

What's your dream road trip?

I’d love to visit lots of places with the car. But the things which jumps in my mind are a road trip through Scandinavia and America, not “Muricaa”, which I think is an incorrect statement because America are basically 2 continents, and I mean those.

Tell us something funny that's happened to you in a car...

We don’t really travel that much in a car, we have the Opel now for 9 years and put about 45 000 km on it.

But something I immediately had to think of is this year when my brother was driving back from Denmark and we where almost back in The Netherlands. It was very quiet on the road so after driving 110-120 the whole way he put his foot down and with 2 bikes on a rack on the back of the car and fully loaded with 4 people and luggage he went from 120 to 150 and slowly to 190 and keeping his foot down we saw 2 VW Golf’s in the rear view mirror going to the right lane with the intention of overtaking us in the right lane. We went to that lane and while driving about 195 they smashed alongside us and overtook us with high speed.

About half an hour later (he already drove 120) we drove in The Netherlands so I finally was able to drive again, so I also putted my foot down to about 140-150 (from 6-19 we can only drive 100 and outside those hours 120 or 130) and my brother immediately complaint I raised the average fuel economy form 8.4 to 8.5 L/100 km.

I asked him who just did 195 with the rev counter all the way in the red and his face was just priceless.

Tell us a song that you particularly enjoy to listen while driving

We usually listen to the radio but when we travel further like more then 100km we usually listen to my own 69 hours Spotify playlist. I like listening to a lot of music but songs that always result in turning up the volume are Home of the brave by Toto , September by Earth, Wind and Fire , I’d do anything for love (but I wont do that) by meatloaf (full album version ) , and several songs by Queen like the whole Made in heaven album and Breakthru

Are you a Motorsport fan

I'm not a really big fan but I enjoy watching rallycross and FIA WEC.

Who's your favorite racing driver?

I don't really have a favourite racing driver because I always forget names and because I think its a team sport.

What's your favorite tribe?

My favourite tribes on DT are All Quizzes and the fun tribe. Because it’s fun .

Are you a Clarkson Hammond and May fan?

Hmmm hard question. You’re asking that to someone who is collecting DVD’s of the old TG because he want’s to see them all. So of course I am a fan of three middle aged men messing around about cars.

What's your favorite Grand Tour /Top Gear moment?

I love the African special, it’s one of the first specials I’ve seen and it’s brilliant. From the beginning to Jeremy’s genius invention (admit it was genius, like most of his idea. The execution on the other hand... rubbish) until the race to find the source of the river. My favourite Grand Tour moment has to be the funeral for a Ford, the whole episode was beautiful and the end. Well crying.

What do you think of Drivetribe?

Drivetribe is one of the main things which separates us car lovers from horse girls. People always say “a car guy is just the men equivalent to a horse girl” but it just isn’t we’re more obsessed. DriveTribe itself is just one of the best social media platforms ever, it’s fun, it’s interesting and has lots of beautiful and nice people around.
