Meet the newest member of the Mercedes EQ line: the Vision EQXX
With 621 miles of range and a 47.5-inch infotainment screen, the EQXX ready to tackle any EV competition
Mercedes-Benz has been slowly expanding their range of electric "EQ" vehicles since the 2016 release of the Generation EQ concept. We've seen numerous EQ vehicles launched since then, the most notable including the EQC and EQS sedan. Today, Mercedes adds yet another EQ vehicle to their lineup: the EQXX.
What makes the EQXX not just another electric car is its significant 620-mile range, delivered from a 200-horsepower single motor. Mercedes claims that the average American driver would only need to charge their EQXX twice a month. This is achieved through aerodynamic and engineering trickery. Its efficient powertrain delivers 95% of its power to the wheels; that's a huge figure! Another trick up its sleeve is a roof-mounted solar panel that is responsible for delivering power to vital systems, like the electrics, blower for the HVAC system, lights, and infotainment. A separate lithium-iron-phosphate battery stores extra energy. In total, this can supply an extra 15.5 miles in ideal conditions.
Other aspects that assist the EQXX in its 620-mile range is its design. With a mere 0.18 drag coefficient, it is incredibly slippery. Its gradual roofline and sloped fenders further emphasize its advanced bodywork. Altogether, the EQXX can travel six miles on merely 1.0 kWh of electrical energy, equivalent to 202 mpg!
Inside is where you'll find a full-width, pillar-to-pillar, 47.5-inch infotainment screen. Did I mention it has an 8K resolution? Mercedes is also working in collaboration with NAVIS Automotive Systems to create “the first realtime 3D navigation system” on a screen of this caliber. Inside is also home to sustainable materials such as mushrooms to bamboo, cactus and "vegan silk", used to cut down in carbon emissions.
Mercedes has not specified whether or not the EQXX will enter production, but its technological advancements will pave the way for new, production ready EQ models in the coming years.
