Meet the Plus Four CX-T: your dream Morgan is here!
Richard Hammond is jumping up and down with excitement after seeing this one
For years, Morgan enthusiast have been yearning for a rally-spec Morgan. Now the British manufacturer has converted the dreams of many into reality with this - the Plus Four CX-T.
The 'T' in the name stands for Trail and CX refers to the carmaker's all-aluminium bonded platform with 100 per cent better torsional rigidity. The CX-T has been designed with help from Mike ‘Beady’ Jones and Paul Round who have 25 Dakar races under their belt. So they really know how to make a mad Dakar-spec car.
To improve departure angles and improving off-roading, Morgan has blessed this rally-ready sports car with a protective exoskeleton, a five-piece underbody protection system and full bespoke exhaust system with rear side-exit.
In terms of powertrain, the CX-T uses the Plus Four’s 2.0-litre turbo engine from BMW. All the power is sent to the wheels via a six-speed gearbox.
Morgan claim that this is “designed explicitly for overland adventure”. Who are we to disagree?
“The project was unrestrained and born entirely from a desire to create an exciting British adventure vehicle,” says Jonathan Wells, Morgan’s Head of Design. “For me, it’s a complete package: historical integrity, legitimate capability, and a brand-new adventure-lead aesthetic.”
