Meet the World's Most Powerful DMC DeLorean

Say hello to a 630 horsepower time machine

The DMC DeLorean is one of the most famous movie cars of all time. Remembered for its role in the Back To The Future movie franchise, it is regarded as a time machine on wheels. However, the DMC DeLorean's engine hasn't been one of its strong points.

In fact, the engine is where the DMC DeLorean has lost. The DeLorean had a Peugeot-Renault-Volvo 2.85-liter V6 engine under the bonnet that produced a measly 130 horsepower and 153 lb-ft of torque.

Otsuka Maxwell Design of San Diego, California, and Nick Reid of Reid Performance have turned the DMC DeLorean into beast by giving it a whopping 630 horsepower. That supercar-like performance figure comes from a twin-turbo V6 engine that has been borrowed from a Kia Stinger GT.

That's not all as this special DeLorean has custom intercoolers, intakes and twin Garret turbochargers. Thanks to all this, this car can reach 60mph from a standing start in 3.9 seconds and finish the quarter-mile in 11.8 seconds.

The exciting bit is that Reid believes that he can eek out even more power from the engine. "This is only on 9 psi, so the motor has potential to make significantly more power, but I think more power would reduce the fun factor of the overall package," he said.

This car has got the accolade of being the 'World's Most Powerful DMC DeLorean'. The record was previously held by a DMC-12 having 575 horsepower on offer.

  • Great idea to put a better engine in it, my only problem is that the suspension probably can’t handle the power and the rest of the car probably rattles and groans under the strain.

I love the DeLorean however for me without all the time travel modifications, it looks like it’s missing stuff and irrespective of engine it won’t ever be fast enough unless it can fly.

  • We finally got a chance to see this car up close and personal, and the owner was gracious enough to take us for a spin. We ended up doing a full walkthrough and test drive video. Check out what we thought of this unique DeLorean here:
