Mercedes-AMG replaces Hamilton's MGU-K
The replacement of the component was brought forward to avoid problems during the first British Grand Prix
Mercedes-AMGs have again proved to be the cars to beat this year, but that doesn't mean they are flawless. Although they won the first three races of the 2020 season, the W11s had some reliability issues that were also found at the Brixworth test center.
For this reason, the German team has decided to install a new MGU-K on Lewis Hamilton's car for the first British Grand Prix. If there are no problems, this new propulsion unit will also be mounted on Bottas' car and on the Racing Point RP20.
After this replacement, the Mercedes-AMG will only have one more chance to replace the MGU-K later in the season. And they will have to be careful when carrying out the operation, as there will never be absolute certainty on the regular development of the races scheduled for the 2020 season.
