Now, I have to admit while I'd heard of the Mille Miglia prior to writing this, I didn't actually know anything about it, beyond an inkling it was something that happened in the first half of the twentieth century. However I now know, thanks to the ever bountiful pages of Wikipedia, it was a series of endurance races in Italy, and translates to 'Thousand Miles'. This car was driven by one it's few foreign winners, 'Rudolf Caracciola' in the 1931 race. I'm glad I don't have to pronounce that last name aloud.
