Mercedes differ from Ferrari, Red Bull in F1 Brazil GP tyre choice
Pirelli Motorsport has revealed the tyre choice of teams and drivers for F1 Brazil GP (November 15-17) as Mercedes goes conservative and Ferrari/Red Bull Racing are aggressive.
As known, Pirelli is bringing C1 (hard), C2 (medium) and C3 (soft) for the F1 Brazil GP at Interlagos, with Mercedes going conservative in their soft tyre choice with just the eight sets, while Ferrari and Red Bull are quite aggressive with 10 sets.
Joining Mercedes with eight sets of soft compound is only McLaren, as Lewis Hamilton has four sets of medium and one of hard, while Valtteri Bottas with the McLaren drivers have opted for three sets of medium and two of hard for the grand prix.
With nine sets of soft compound are Alfa Romeo Racing, Toro Rosso and Williams drivers, where Kimi Raikkonen, Daniil Kvyat and Robert Kubica have gone for two sets each of the medium and hard compounds, with their teammates going different.
Antonio Giovinazzi, Pierre Gasly and George Russell have three sets of medium and one of hard compound. As mentioned before, Ferrari and Red Bull have 10 sets of soft, together with Renault, Haas and Racing Point drivers.
Interestingly, everyone in the group apart from Daniel Ricciardo have gone for two sets of medium and one of hard, while the Australian is the sole driver with two sets of hard and one of medium compound.
As the rule states, the teams get 13 set of tyres for the whole Brazil GP weekend, with one set of the softest compound to be kept by the Top 10 F1 drivers to use in Q3. After the completion of qualifying, the Top 10 drivers will have to return that set, while the other drivers can keep it for the race.
For the races, each driver has to keep one set each of the two harder compounds available for the weekend, while the rest 10 sets they are free to choose from the three available compounds for the particular driver.
