Mercedes Drivers Are Furious After Their Sunroofs Explode Unexpectedly.
They're Demanding $200 Million USD
Mercedes has been in the news recently, after several owners are complaining that their sunroofs have... exploded. Miraculously, this is not the first time this has happened to a car.
The plaintiff in this lawsuit claims that his sister was driving his Mercedes SUV, in normal, calm weather. She was travelling 55mph (88kph) when all of a sudden, she heard a loud bang, and pulled over, only to find the panoramic sunroof... all over the back seat.
Sunroofs are very delicate, and require precise engineering to remain in one piece. Mercedes has failed to deliver a safe sunroof in this respect, and now more people are speaking out about their sunroof terrors. Aside from being dangerous, it can distract the driver, possibly even causing a crash.
Mercedes however, has not issued a recall, and are not warning owners about this issue. Mercedes has offered sums of money as a peace offering so owners won't sue, but clearly this hasn't worked. These sunroofs are expensive, costing anywhere from $2,000 to $9,000.
