Mercedes EQ confirm Vandoorne and De Vries for 2021 Formula E

    Mercedes say "continuity is key"

After a successful maiden season with a second place finish (Vandoorne) in the drivers' championship and a third place in the constructors' championship, Mercedes EQ Formula E decided to confirm both drivers - Stoffel Vandoorne and Nyck De Vries - as first drivers for the 2020-21 season.

Mercedes EQ Formula E team principal Ian James said that "both [drivers] turned in strong performances, gained valuable experience with the team and showed that they have the right skill sets for Formula E" .

Stoffel Vandoorne said they were "able to successfully conclude last season with a win and I hope that we can fight for podiums and victories again next year" and his words were echoed by Nyck de Vries, who added that they "hope we can use the foundations we have built together to achieve more success next season"".

The drivers will be sitting behind the wheel of their Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrow 02 race car on 16 January 2021, when season 7 is scheduled to kick off in Santiago del Chile. The provisional calendar, still valid at the time of writing (October 29), consists of at least 14 races in Chile, Saudi Arabia, Italy, France, Monaco, South Korea, Germany, United States, United Kingdom, China and Mexico.
