Mercedes EQ-Line EVs To Have AMG Variants
The Mercedes EQ lineup will add AMG performance models.
1. Daimler has confirmed that some Mercedes-Benz EQ models will have AMG versions.
2. Extensive details have yet to be released, but we do know that not every EQ will have an AMG model.
3. EQ-line AMGs could rival the likes of the Tesla Model S, 3, and Y Performance trim levels.
Daimler's performance brand, AMG, will produce variants of the upcoming EQ-line EVs from Mercedes, according to Daimler R&D chief Markus Schäfer. AMG styling packages are already offered for EQA and EQS models, meaning that these AMG electrics will be the real deal - not just rear wings and fancy wheels.
The recently unveiled EQA SUV derivative with 280 horsepower will not be an AMG. Schäfer also announced that not all EQ-line vehicles will receive the AMG treatment. In recent times, AMG has been pushing a plug-in hybrid initiative, with an 800-horsepower GT73 supercar on its way. The forthcoming high-performance EVs will likely go head-to-head with Tesla's Performance models, of course this depends on price, horsepower, and the market they will be on sale for. The addition of these AMG variants could also call upon other performance brands, such as Audi Sport, to start working with electric vehicles. This has already occured with BMW's M, with the announcement that their next vehicle will be electric.
