Mercedes' F1 Team Is Definitely Not For Sale According To Team Source
A few days ago reports began to surface that Mercedes' Formula 1 team was up for sale. If true this was enormous news but not completely shocking. F1 teams come and go regardless of how successful they are. With the uncertainty surrounding the next Concorde Agreement many teams are taking this as an opportunity to reevaluate their future standing in F1. Enter Roger Penske into the equation and what was being reported was a blockbuster deal between two motorsport heavyweights.
After a few days and some intrepid digging on the parts of Carscoops and RACER it would appear that those reports were too good to be true. Carscoops were told by a "well placed" anonymous source that the Mercedes F1 team was 100% not for sale. When asked to comment Roger Penske told RACER's Robin Miller, "absolutely not true, and my plate is full."
Both parties have left little doubt that there is nothing going on. Mercedes has yet to confirm its program beyond 2020, as have many teams. 2021 sees big changes to F1 and many teams are taking a wait and see approach before confirming their programs. Official regulations have not been released as of yet and most teams aren't going to commit to future programs until they are.
