Mercedes G-Class: how expensive can it be?

Today I tried building a G-Class with the online configurator. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the most ludicrously expensive cars you can buy today and it is a classic. It sells in big numbers, considering the price, because it's a bit of an icon and because it is a professional sportsmen and rappers favourite. Damn nearly every football (I mean soccer) player on the planet has one.

The base model starts at £91,215 and the AMG 63, which is the one I've selected, starts at £140,520.

It is available in three different types of paint: standard, metallic and designo. There are twelve variants of the "designo" paint, which is the most expensive available paint, and for some reason, some colours cost more than others. You can spend £1,750 or £2,850 or even £4,285. I'd have gone for green but I settled for yellow olive because it was the most expensive choice.

I've also selected 22-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels for £1,990

Inside & extras

When you move to the interior you're instantly asked if you'd like to add something called AMG leather pack for £5,500 so I did. Nappa Leather seats included but only because I selected the aforementioned seats package. You can also choose the AMG carbon fibre trim (instead of wood) for £3,655 although I believe that carbon fibre only looks good on sportscars/supercars and nothing else. I've added the carbon fibre steering wheel for £875 and, vintage stuff here, the car telephony system for £480. Basically it allows you to use the car as a phone by inserting a sim card in a sim card reader. I don't know why anyone would spend money on this redundant feature considering you already have bluetooth and Apple Car Play etc but anyway.

On top of all that, I've selected the AMG Driver's package (£2,000) which increases the top speed, taking it up to 240 kph (149 mph)

This car has 4-litre V8 with 585 hp and the standard top speed (without the AMG driver's package) is 137 mph (220 kph). 0-60 takes 4,5 seconds. Fuel consumption? You don't wanna know

Here you go. The rappers' mobile is ready.

Base price was £140,520, plus optional extras for £26,630 for a grand total of £167,150.

USD prices: $181,320 + $34,362 = $215,682
