Following the success of the A-Class, Mercedes-Benz claim to be responding to the wish of many of it's customers and have created the A-Class Sedan. Anyone looking for a compact, sporty sedan with a separate boot now has a new alternative. The new car has also had influence from the CLA, of which 50% of the customers who bought the CLA were new customers to Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes will be offering two engine variants in the new Sedan to start with, one petrol and one diesel. The A200 petrol engine produces 163BHP and 250Nm of torque, whilst the A180d will provide 116BHP and 260NM of torque. Both models will be equipped with a 7 gear, dual clutch transmission.

The new A-Class Sedan features a low, elongated bonnet with the signature slimline, Mercedes-Benz headlights and the diamond radiator grille that we see on most modern Mercedes now. The headlights have the option to be upgraded to Multibeam LED lights, which electronically adjust themselves to suit traffic and road conditions and best illuminate the road ahaead. At the rear, the boot separates the tail lights into two parts. The Sedan has the option to have just a black rear diffuser or instead with an added chrome strip with chrome tailpipes. To celebrate the launch of the car, Mercedes will also be releasing the A Class Sedan Edition 1, which will feature copper coloured highlights on both the interior and exterior.

Inside the standard models, ambient lighting can be in one of 64 colours chosen by the owner. The driver gets a few options when it comes to touchscreens, there are two that can be either 7" or 10.25", depending on preference. The new Sedan also comes with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience as standard. This gives the driver augmented reality on the navigation and speech recognition by saying 'Hey Mercedes'. A new feature within the security system of the car adds vehicle tracking, which Mercedes say will help owners find their parked car or message the owner if the vehicle has been bumped or towed away.

The A-Class Sedan takes technology from the current S-Class model, and is able to drive semi-autonomously in certain situations. The camera and radar system allows the car to see 500m ahead and uses it's map and navigation features for assistance.

The car will be built in both Mexico and Germany, and will be presented for the first time at this year's Paris Motor Show, taking place in October.
