Mercedes unveils the Maybach S680 4Matic with a V12 engine
The V12 continues its career at Maybach
Even top-of-the-range cars such as the Mercedes S-Class are going through the inevitable downsizing process. The current W223 model has seen its engine range reoriented downwards with, for example, the S500 now equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 instead of the traditional 4.0-litre V8.
On the other hand, the noble 6.0-litre V12 is leaving the classic range definitively and is reserved for the ultra-exclusive Maybach version. Mercedes is now presenting the S680 4Matic. Compared to the S580 4Matic, the S680 4Matic has a few subtle exterior details.
The only things that stand out are the V12 badge on the front wings and the model name on the boot lid. Under the bonnet, the S680 4Matic has a 6.0-litre V12 which, unlike all the other engines in the S-Class, does not benefit from any hybridization.
Despite this small absence, this engine boasts flattering figures such as 612 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque. This power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. The S680 4Matic does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and reaches an electronically limited speed of 155 mph (250 kph).
