August 15 is celebrated as the day, the British Empire exited the Indian subcontinent, thus, giving India it's freedom. It's a day for celebration for all Indians. Nationals around the globe use this day to feel connected to each other and savour their freedom.

1.50 am, August 16 2019, Arsalan Parwez, son to the owner of the most reputed Biryani Chain in Kolkata, crashed his Jaguar reportedly travelling at over 100km/hr. The crash first hit a Mercedes, injuring both passengers which then flew to hit and kill 2 of the 3 bystanders on the sidewalk. The bystanders were identified as the Bangladeshi nationals in the city to support Kazi Mohammad getting eye treatment in the city.

The crash occurred when the Jaguar ran a red light and hurled towards the Mercedes injuring both passengers. The culprit has been taken into custody and will be presented in court later this month. The public prosecutor said that Arsalan will be charged with attempt to commit culpable homicide, rash driving, mischief and damage to public property.

The lawyer spoke to the press after unsuccessfully pleading bail for his client. The public prosecutor said since Arsalan is a management student, he should have been aware of driving regulations and speeding laws.

The passengers in the Mercedes were taken to a nearby hospital. Amit Kajaria suffered ear injuries and had to undergo plastic surgery. His wife, Kanika, suffered injuries to the stomach but now it out of danger.

The lone survivor of the 3 bystanders told the reporters that it is heartbreaking that he has to go back alone with the bodies to his country.

The culprit will remain in police custody till August 29th. He is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
