Make no mistake, the new Road 5 is a very important new model for Michelin.
Their Pilot Road range has consistently been their strongest seller, and every iteration since the original has received rave reviews, especially on its wet weather performance, which has been an industry leader since the Road 3.
The Road 4 was also the best-selling sports touring tyre on the market, giving the new version a lot to live up to.
Michelin says the new tyre will work well even when worn, stopping better with 3,000 miles of use under its (literal) belt than a PR4 would when new! Michelin says new technology is to thank for this bold claim, particularly "patented XST Evo siping and ACT+ technology"
"The Road 5 tyre represents a breakthrough in motorcycle tire technology," said Ross Shields, vice president of Two Wheel at Michelin. "With design and technology DNA incorporated from Michelin's leading research and development team, we are able to set a new benchmark for the effects of tire wear and performance over time."
