Micro Machines Return!

Everyone's favorite micro-sized cars for the '80s and '90s are making a comeback next year!

In a press release that somehow went unnoticed by most of the diecast and toy-car collecting community in June of this year, Hasbro announced that they would be partnering up once again with Wicked Cool Toys to bring back the kid-loved and parent's-foot-despised toy car line Micro Machines!

Michael Rinzler, co-president of Wicked Cool Toys, said, "Micro Machines is one of those amazing nostalgic brands that still has appeal 30 years later. There is huge potential to bring it back." Jeremy Padawer, co-president, continued, "Considering recent toy unboxing trends, the brand's multigenerational appeal, and the vehicle category's ripeness for something 'new' again, we believe Micro Machines will be a global phenomenon."

As many of you LaLD'ers know, the love for Micro Machines is still alive and well. The original cars and playsets command quite a decent price on the second-hand market these days, and they're getting harder and harder to find. Especially if you're trying to find ones with minimal-playwear. I can attest to the fact that Micro Machines lived a very hard life as a kid's toy. Maybe even moreso than any Hot Wheels or Matchbox I ever owned.

Now to the part you're all impatiently waiting for. WHEN are we going to finally get our hands on some new Micro Machines? The new line is expected to hit store shelves in the Fall of 2020. Just in time for the holiday season. I know what I'll be putting on my Christmas list next year... ;)

So Tribe, do you still have any Micro Machines from your childhood? Let's some see pics! Or if you don't, share your favorites that you used to have!

    • Funny enough, I actually just found my old Datsun 620(?) firetruck the other day! And my Super Van City still gets played with on a weekly basis when I take my kids over to dinner at my dad's house!

  • I was actually just thinking about selling all my incomplete playsets, I have a huge tub of micro machines. As a kid it was my main toy brand. I had very few Hotwheels or matchbox and those were usually construction vehicles that lived VERY hard lives outside.

    • I went back and forth between the two. And yeah, my Hot Wheels lived a pretty hard life as well, just inside. Lots of crash scenes....

If you ever do let them go, let me know! I've got a Super Van City my kids love playing with, but very few Micro...
