With the brakes from a Corvette, seats from a Z, heart of an Acura CL Type S, and box flares for days, this custom mid-engined Civic broke the Internet for most of this week. The BaT auction finally closed today, with the hammer dropping on a final bid of $42,750. That price might seem staggering for a Civic, even for a one-off build like this one, but don't forget a stock Civic Si sold on Bring a Trailer a few months ago for a record $50k!

If you missed all the buzz around this 1984 Civic earlier this week, I'll sum it up for you real quick. Obviously, this is a one-off, custom build completed by a hot-rodder from Washington State between the late 80's and early 90's. It trader hands a few times before it wound up in its current caretaker's possession, who decided to list the car on Bring a Trailer. They installed an Acura J32A2 3.2L V6 and transmission into the car during their ownership. This gem of an engine powered the CL Type S from the early 00's and threw down 260 horsepower.

The battery, spare tire, and fuel tank now live under the hood up front. I'm not 100% sold on the custom built headlight assemblies and would have went with something more period correct. The rear hatch now holds a 3.2L V6, upgraded by the seller from its original 2.5L unit. All this is headed to Austin Texas, where the winning bidder lives. Word on the street is Austin is a big hot spot for RADwood, where I sure hope this thing brings in lots of Nintendo-cartridge trophies!

  • As I blabbed about in the previous article, I got to meet the owner of this car some years back at a car meet in Spokane, Washington..........he was a nice guy, and told me about all the work he put into this little beastie. From the metal fabbed body work, to the Corvette/frankenstein brakes, he really thought outside the box to create this car. We got to talk, as we were parked next to each other, and we were both a bit older than most of the attendees (definitely a late teen, early 20's kinda crowd). So, we sat yakking with each other......I kept foaming at the mouth about his build, and he was pretty fond of my '86 CRX, which was bone stock, with the exception of new paint, wheels, stereo, etc. Regardless, both of our go-karts were pretty popular with the younger crowd. I hope he managed to recoup some or most of his investment in building that one-of-a-kind car.

  • Nah. I’d do 2 grand at most. And that’s being generous.
