Military grade Kia is just straight-up ridiculous
And I want one
There's a growing appetite for overland trucks and military vehicles that look like they come straight out of a zombie apocalypse movie and normally, you'd expect things like the Hummer H1 or the Rezvani Tank but this... is a Kia. And I love it.
The Korean manufacturer has actually built military-grade trucks before and since 2016, they've been building light tactical vehicles for the South Korean army. The truck you see here is loosely based on the sort of vehicle that the army use and was recently displayed at the 2021 International Defense Exhibition & Conference in the United Arab Emirates.
They call it the 'Light Tactical Cargo Truck", it has four seats and it is built using a modular chassis. It's powered by a 225-hp diesel engine, around the same power as a Kia Sorento, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. It also has independent suspension, run-flat tyres and a limited-slip diff.
The modular chassis that Kia used gives engineers the opportunity to create armoured versions as well as a road-legal unarmoured variants and even pick-up trucks. And it can haul up to three tons of cargo. In fact, Kia said they're considering a civilian version, suggesting the company will be "developing vehicles based on the Bare Chassis for clients' eclectic taste around the world". I can't wait to see that.
