MINI announces limited edition convertible

But be prepared to pay extra for its exclusivity

MINI has unveiled a special addition to the successful convertible range, the Sidewalk Edition. This new high-spec model is limited to just 150 units in the UK. MINI currently holds the record for producing the UK's best selling convertible - winning several awards from well-known magazines. So what's so good about this new one?

The Sidewalk Edition uses the mid-level Cooper S trim as its foundations, utilising the ever-popular 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine that produces 192 horsepower and offers plenty of pops and bangs from the dual-exhaust system in Sport Mode.

A 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch and steering wheel paddles promise silky-smooth gear changes, but this is the only option available for this model - bad news for purists.

Exclusive features are in abundance on the Sidewalk Edition. For starters, its painted in new Deep Laguna metallic body paint that gives the car a proper 'summer ready' look. It's also been kitted-out with special bonnet stripes with pin lines, along with side scuttle 'Sidewalk' badges, 17" wheels and an arrow-head soft roof, which can be opened or closed in just 18 seconds.

Inside tells a similar story. An all-new seat design with anthracite-coloured MINI Yours Leather Lounge with 'Sidewalk' seat badges and contrasting seams in Petrol and Energetic Yellow colours help to really make the interior stand out. Also included is a sports leather steering wheel with a 'Sidewalk' logo at the bottom.

A new illuminated dashboard fascia has been created for this model, that's styled in Piano Black with accents in Petrol and Silver.

As you would expect, this special model comes loaded with tonnes of on-board tech; the Navigation Plus Pack featuring an 8.8" touch screen display with Satellite Navigation and Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) will get you from A to B with ease. Owners also receive Wireless Charging with Amazon Alexa functionality, heated seats, front and rear parking sensors and a rear view camera.

MINI's high-quality Harmon Kardon Hi-Fi system is also included - making for crystal-clear sound. Driving feel is enhanced thanks to the addition of a Head-up Display unit, a wind deflector and adjustable driving modes (Comfort, ECO and Sport).

The MINI Sidewalk Edition is now available to order from a rather heavy £34,215 (RRP) at retailers nationwide and production is due to start in March this year. But is it too expensive? Standard Cooper S Convertibles can be picked up for considerably less and offer the exact same fun and performance.

Another thing that the customer might find odd is its name. A Sidewalk isn't really a term the British use, perhaps they should rename it as the 'Pavement' or 'Roadside' Edition.
