Geelong Revival is pleased to host this excellent example of only five Mini Marcos GTs in Australia. This car was one of 2 shells imported from England by Competition Cars Australia (Sydney) in 1967. It was sold to Jack Read of Read Speed in Brisbane who built the car up and registered it in Queensland with the plates "MARCOS".
The fiberglass/GRP monocoque body utilises the running gear and subframe of a Mini, hence the 1275 cc BMC A-series 4 cylinder engine transversely mounted with a (48mm Weber?). It features (a four speed transmission?) and rear drums with disc brakes at the front.
About 25 years ago the car was involved in a minor accident which cracked the windscreen. The owner was unable to procure a new screen so the car was stored and neglected until his son decided to begin a restoration. Ill health curtailed that attempt and the car was sold as a rolling shell to the current Warragul-based owner in December 2012.
The Marcos has since undergone a total rebuild and restoration, which was completed in August 2014.
