MINI release their most powerful models ever
MINI announced the arrival of the new Countryman and Clubman John Cooper Works and in doing so, gave the world the most powerful road going Minis ever.
The two hardcore models boast a new 2 litre, 4 cylinder turbo charged engine that kicks out 306hp and at the top end drivers can enjoy 450nm of torque. These figures are up by 75hp and 350 nm, those are huge increases and that translates directly to how fast you can rocket yourself across tarmac.
You can expect the Countryman to get you to 60mph in 5.1 seconds and the Clubman in 4.9. That means MINI have managed to cut 1.5 and 1.4 seconds off the 0-60 time compared to the outgoing versions of both of these cars and that is an impressive feat of engineering. Not to mention that you will be able to surprise a few unsuspecting motorists at the lights.
MINI have managed to achieve this by completely redesigning the 4 cylinder engine and giving each car specific modifications to the crankshaft drive and vibration dampers. Nope, I don't know what it means either but who cares when it makes your new MINI into a ballistic missile.
In addition to the engine modifications, MINI have uprated the sport chassis, tinkered with the All4 system to help traction, improved the 8-speed steptronic sports transmission and you get a boatload of premium options as standard (LED headlights, 18 inch JCW alloy wheels and a nav pack to name a few).
If you want to get your hands on the new Countryman JCW or Clubman JCW you can place your order from July with the Countryman setting you back from £35,550 and the Clubman hitting your bank account for £34,250.
