If you were talking with a friend at your local pub about your favourite sports car makers of today, it‘s higly likely that neither of you would say Mitsubishi. For this, you can’t really be blamed and for some this news may not even come as a shock.

At this years Geneva Motor Show the managing director of Mitsubishi UK; Robert Lindley confirmed that their priority from now on will be solely on SUVs.

“As a business that sells 1.2 million cars worldwide, in a global sense, it’s not a big business. If you try and be in all the different segments of the market and follow trends, like sports cars, it would be difficult to be economically viable,” Lindley said, while speaking to CarThrottle.

Experience tells us that chances are, with its focus narrowed onto one thing; Mitsubishi could well benefit from this move. However I would question whether they can continue to innovate and create SUVs alongside the bigger and better funded companies like Land Rover?

I think that most people will be looking for very cost effective vehicles, affordable, reliable and cheap to maintain. An SUV doesn’t meet this requirements and so Mitsubishi will go out of business.
